Try to go out today, lose yourself in the crowd. Stand near an intersection and wait out the traffic lights. Watch the people. Look at their mannerisms: the way they talk, the way they eat, the way they gesticulate.

Realise how different you are from them.

Take a bus from anywhere, to anywhere. Sit yourself down and plug in to your earphones if you haven’t already done so. Search your music library. You’ll find Prince’s The Gold Experience. Click on “Gold”, the last track. Put it on repeat.

Close your eyes as you listen to it. Feel the opening notes; you already know them by heart. For once, don’t sing along to the lyrics. Just listen. The words are simple, but do you understand them? Do you really understand what it is saying?

No, you don’t. Not the way I understand it. Listen to it the second, third, fourth time. Keep it on repeat. Let his deep voice pulsate with the beating of your heart. Let the words appear in your mind as if they are your own. Understand what those words mean to me. Listen to the track until you start to smile. I don’t care how many times you need to repeat it.
